Unexpected and inappropriate shocks to the heart caused by a defective cardiac defibrillator caused one man to suffer such severe anxiety that he is now being treated by a psychiatrist for post traumatic stress, according to The Southeast Texas Record. The patient, Donald Larry Jackson, filed a product liability suit against Medtronic, the makers of the defective medical device, and is seeking claims of relief for product liability, breach of implied warranty, negligence, intentional infliction of emotional distress, negligent infliction of emotional distress, violation of consumer protection statutes, breach of express warranties, unjust enrichment, battery, and negligent misrepresentation.

U.S. District Judge Richard Kyle dismissed thousands of lawsuits against Medtronic Inc., manufacturer of the faulty Sprint Fidelis defibrillators that have allegedly injured and killed several people. Attorneys serving the patients, however, may seek to have the judge disqualified from the case because he never disclosed that his son works for the law firm representing Medtronic.

Medtronic Inc., the maker of the defective Sprint Fidelis Defibrillator Lead, announced last week that it had reached a settlement agreement regarding another of its faulty medical devices. The company has agreed to pay out $114 million to settle product liability lawsuits filed as the result of injuries cased by its malfunctioning Marquis line of implanted cardiac defibrillators. Despite the huge settlement agreement, Medtronic said it does not admit liability in the litigation.

Medtronic Inc., the maker of the faulty Sprint Fidelis Defibrillator Lead Wire, is now facing a lawsuit filed by a group of Canadians who claim the company failed to warn consumers of a defect in the batteries installed in its defibrillators. Last week, Ontario Superior Court Judge Alexandra Hoy certified the class-action lawsuit in a ruling released Dec. 6 in Toronto, allowing the plaintiffs to seek a portion of Medtronic profits for damages.

Medtronic, Inc., the maker of the faulty Sprint Fidelis Defibrillator Lead and several other defective medical devices, will try to convince the US Supreme Court that people injured by dangerous medical devices and drugs should not be allowed to sue manufacturers if those products have been approved by the Food & Drug Administration (FDA).

More lawsuits have been filed against Medtronic related to its defective Sprint Fidelis leads. Two Kansas residents have filed class action lawsuits alleging that Medtronic was negligent in the design of its Sprint Fidelis Leads. Both lawsuits also allege that Medtronic failed to warn patients about the possible defects in a timely manner.
